What is the Open Data Bank (ODB)?

The ODB is a free repository for open data. The data here is available without charge, license, or restrictions. All of the data is available in a variety of open formats, including HTML, XML, CSV, JSON, RDF, and tab-delimited text.

Warning: This site is in its earliest stages, so it's likely there are large pieces of it that don't work properly.

What can I use this data for?

This is up to you. The ODB does not believe in ownership of public data and facts, and therefore does not have the ability to grant or restrict the use of it.

What type of data is the ODB looking for?

The most useful data at this stage is historical facts and statistics. Data about people, places, politics, etc. Ideally data would relate to or expand on current datasets.

What type of data is the ODB not looking for?

The ODB is not a content repository. We do not plan to host public-domain creative works like Project Gutenberg or narrative articles like Wikipedia. We are not trying to be the up-to-the-minute source for information like stock quotes and sports scores.

I have some data, can I add it to the ODB?

We're always looking for large, clean, relatively complete datasets. Email submissions at opendatabank.com with details and we will see if it fits.

How can I help/keep up with ODB?

You can join the Google Group, or email opendatabank at opendatabank.com with questions, comments, or ideas.
